LIVE TRAFFIC NSW FOR UPDATES

Elements: Susan Carter & Gina Fairley

Retford Park National Trust, 1325 Old South Road, Bowral NSW, Australia

Event Date: 10 Oct - 27 Oct 2024, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Coming together in a cross-generational conversation, Susan Carter and Gina Fairley present an exhibition that takes its cue from the four elements – fire, water, air and earth – and gives a nod to Donald Friend’s ‘Four Elements’ mural in the Retford Park dining room.

Susan works with fabrics, turning them into unique wearable artworks. Gina is a jeweller whose practice centres around a sustainability ethic, pulling together semi-precious stones, reformed glass and precious metals in a raw and refined aesthetic.

Colour will be key in bringing the works of these two creatives together and characteristics of the four elements will be incorporated into the exhibition design.

Exhibition entry is free. Tickets for house and garden tours can be purchased separately for those wishing to get a glimpse inside historic Retford Park and its impressive surrounds.

About the artists:
Susan Carter is perhaps most known for curating the gardens of her property, ‘The Burrows’ at Canyonleigh, along with managing the private gallery, Kirton Gallery, which presented the artworks of her husband artist John Kirton for many years.

Gina Fairley has been working in the arts for over 35 years, both as a curator and writer in Australia, America and Asia. She has curated over fifty exhibitions and for the last decade has been the National Visual Arts Editor at ArtsHub Australia. Gina moved to the Highlands in 2015 and started Small Impact Studio with Scott Chaseling.
