LIVE TRAFFIC NSW FOR UPDATES

Spud Lane Gallery, U1, 74-76 Hoddle Street, Robertson

Event Date: 24 Sep - 29 Oct 2023, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The funkiest art space in the Highlands just got BIGGER and better. Join us for this Warholesque contemporary art exhibition at the brand-new Spud Lane Mezz!

Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Spud Lane is the hip hideaway gallery that wows people as they walk through the door.

We’re not your typical white cube gallery. Instead, we take the opposite approach. Spud Lane is eclectic, creative, industrial, and warm. And now we’re adding a second level for your viewing pleasure.

Kicking off The Mezzanine is a show with a nod to Andy Warhol. Warhol’s second studio on 47th St. New York, nicknamed The (Silver) Factory, was a shining silver space covered in Aluminium foil and silver spray paint designed by Billy Linich.

Like Warhol’s factory, the Mezz has a shining silver roof, just a short distance above your head, and gallery co-director and resident artist Ric Abel has hung grids of his flat images as another nod to Warhol’s love of repetition.

The floor is painted with artwork referencing Ric’s restauranteur past, with the same motif that adorned the musician’s alcove of the legendary Artichoke Gallery Cafe in Manly on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The Mezz is decked out with seating for you to engage with the artwork, and sculpture by Highlands artist Lucinda McDonald, plus a sneak preview of Ric Abel’s long-awaited Triffids exhibition.

Find us hidden away next to Robertson’s Big Potato, at the rear of Highlands Hive, Westside. Leave feeling inspired, enriched and eager to return. Open Fri-Sun 10-4 and by appointment.
