Southern Highlands Symphony Orchestra 2021 Concert Series Two

Peter Craig Centre, Oxley College, Railway Road

Event Dates:

  • 5 Jun 2021, 7:30 pm
  • 6 Jun 2021, 2:30 pm

Concert with a Scandinavian Vibe and Southern Highlands Flair

The Southern Highlands Symphony Orchestra is delighted to be back performing again and its
Series 2 concerts will not only explore the music of two of Scandinavia’s finest composers:
Jean Sibelius Karelia Suite and Carl Nielsen Symphony No. 1 but will also feature local violinist Alexandra Dening
as guest artist in Dvorak’s Romance for Violin and Orchestra, and the World Premiere of the
winning composition in the SHSO’s 2020 Competition – the evocative High Flight by Southern
Highlands composer and trumpeter John Corley.
The competition was sponsored by one of our patrons, Ann Carr-Boyd AM.
Guest artist Alexandra Dening is well-known in the Southern Highlands as a performer and teacher.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from ANU in 2015 and completed a Master’s in
Teaching from UNE in 2018. She currently teaches privately and at Powerpoint Music, as well as
Bowral Public School. She plays in many Highlands ensembles including the Southern Highlands
Symphony Orchestra and the Highlands Music Collective. Dvorak’s Romance – while a small work in
scale – is surely one of his most glorious melodic creations.

The Southern Highlands Symphony Orchestra’s Series 2 concerts will take place on: Saturday 5th June at 7.30pm and Sunday 6th June at 2.30pm.
