Not many have seen Australia’s highest mountain and most Aussies have never even heard of it! Very few have summited Mawson’s Peak on Heard Island, and the first attempt very nearly ended in disaster. But with help from Sydney’s intrepid ‘bare foot bushwalker’, Dot Butler and with legendary Sydney bushwalker Colin Putt as ship’s engineer back they sailed to try again with Sydney’s Outward founder and ship’s cook, Warwick Deacock in the leader

Michael Dillon’s new film “THE GREAT WHITE WHALE” takes us back to the summer of 1964 and a crew of 10 adventurers aboard schooner Patanea, battling the worst seas in the world to reach Heard Island deep in the wild Southern Ocean. Braving the huge shore break to land then risking crevasses, blizzards and frostbite to be the first reach the summit. What an adventure!

We are excited to be taking The Great White Whale north for Q&A Event screenings! First stop Canberra, then Sydney and on to Ballina, Maleny, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sawtell, and SUNDAY OCTOBER 27th at the EMPIRE CINEMA, BOWRAL, then on to Albury, Adelaide, Melbourne, Castlemaine and Hobart. The Whale is also being screened in Fremantle, Busselton and Albany, Australian Antarctic bases and several places in NZ.

The film has won 6 international awards and is getting very enthusiastic receptions from audiences of all ages. It’s funny, it’s gripping, the music is amazing, it’s a precious piece of Australian maritime and adventure history – don’t miss it!
