Artist Description Of Their Work And/Or Studio
Michael crafts bowls, platters, jewellery, pens and other items from reclaimed and sustainably grown timber. He uses Australian native timbers as well as exotics from overseas, with timber grown here in the Southern Highlands a favourite. Through the lathe and carving Michael enjoys revealing the amazing grain and textures of timber so they can be enjoyed in peoples homes. Michael also creates a new life for vintage and antique furniture through repair, restoration, and upholstery. By applying traditional and modern techniques and materials, the furniture is rejuvenated for a place in today’s homes.
Artist Biography
“My inspiration is based on the idea that every piece of raw timber has the opportunity to be handcrafted into something of beauty and usefulness; and that every piece of furniture that I rejuvenate is given a second life. When I carve or turn timber on the lathe, or restore a piece of furniture, I become a part of the story of that piece.” Michael Adamietz
