An interesting historical and quirky fact is that Bowral is the Birthplace of Mary Poppins. P.L. Travers created her fictional character as a 12 year old in 1910 while living at 45 Holly Street, Bowral. You can visit Mary’s Statue which is located in Glebe Park next to the Bradman Museum in St Jude Street, Bowral.
Another interesting historical and quirky fact is that Charlotte Atkinson, wife of land owner and respected agriculturalist, James Atkinson in the mid 1800’s, is now represented in bronze in the Market Place Park in Berrima. Charlotte was passionate about the education of girls, an author, the manager of a vast estate and more.
