Artist Description Of Their Work And/Or Studio
I carve scuIptures from locally sourced sandstone from the Southern Highlands, finding inspiration in the beauty of Australian flora and fauna. Just as the natural world is filled with uniqueness, so is each piece of sandstone with its individual variation in colour and pattern. The local quarry is a great place to find quality sandstone blocks that provide the perfect canvases for my carvings. While I love recreating wildlife in my work, making custom and bespoke pieces also provides me with a rewarding challenge.
Artist Biography
“Seven years of sandstone carving has led to my works being displayed during the Pop-up Project and the Southern Highlands Arts Trail. My involvement in the latter led to my work being discovered by Phillips Marler Landscape Architects and subsequently, a commission to produce thirteen artworks for display in Bong Bong Common in Burradoo. Through my artmaking in sandstone, I have gained peace, solitude and my creativity has flourished.” Troy Genner
